Sunday UFL Countdown: Week 3
By Peter "Bash" Smith
Countdown UFL Columnist

Hello again Countdown fans. Wow
what action last week. 2 overtime games. I’m sure it’s a 1st in
the UFL. What’s also important is that I came out of last week 4-2 and back
to 500 so that I can start a nice run. Starting anew, here are my predictions
for week 3.
Dallas
vs. New England
Both teams are 0-2. A major disappointment for both teams who had such high
hopes at the beginning of this season. This week is huge for the both of them.
Someone will be 0-3 and looking up to see one team at 2-1 and the other at 3-0
in their division. The season is still long but at anytime being behind 2 to 3
games is a lot of work to catch up.
Dallas may
have been losing but at least they are getting some production. The Pats are
not. The Pats are a team assembled of underachievers and it’s ruining their
promising season. Look for Clinton Portis and Brandon Marshall to lead the
Cowboys to their first win.
Winner:
Dallas
Washington
vs. Philadelphia
The Eagles are really struggling mightily this year. If they want any chance
to win and go far, now would be the time to make a trade for help. I also
think they GM Dahl should finally lean towards doing what was once unthinkable.
Make LT ride the pine. Maybe not this week, but I truly think he’s finished.
It was very smart on the part of the Eagles GM to only sign him for 2 years.
Washington
had a great day lead by rookie running back run DMC. They won despite DeSean
Jackson dropping the ball at the goal line. Could you imaging if they
would’ve lost because of it and the Buffalo Bills won by less than 6 points
against the Raiders? That just makes for funny material.
I just
don’t see the Eagles coming out of their funk yet. I think that their
running back depth (or lack thereof) is going to kill them. A not 100% MJD
slows their production. Look for the Redskins to have a good but not great day
and squeak out a win by 3 or 4 points.
Winner:
Washington
Buffalo
vs. Tampa Bay
Both GMs are two time champions facing off this in the battle of the ages
baby…. Erchk. Let’s face it, both multi-champs have terrible teams. The
difference between the two is that one team has playmakers. I’ve said it at
the beginning of the season and I’ll say it again. The Bills will go as far
as Brian Westbrook and Peyton Manning are willing to take them.
The Bucs
have nothing going for them. Anquan Boldin made it a game last week against
the Giants, but he isn’t doing that every week. The Bucs just don’t have
anyone to lead their team and will struggle again this week.
With the
Bills, this is the week that Westbrook gets shut out going up against
Blitzburgh D. What will be the difference is Julius Jones. He’s going up
against a terrible Rams D. I also think that this is the week that Lee Evans
breaks out and scores 2.
Winner:
Buffalo
Denver
vs. Green Bay
A battle of the undefeated is just what the doctor ordered. From what I’ve
seen, these two teams matchup very evenly. Brees vs. Anderson, Wayne vs.
Burress and D vs. D. One of these two teams will be king of the Western
division.
I’m
looking for Gore, Burress and Jennings to have huge days. Whatever defense GM
Lapierre decides to put in will keep the game close but I think it’s the end
of the road for the Packers hot start to the season as this week they will
struggle to put up points.
Winner:
Denver
Cincinnati
vs. Minnesota
Two very unpredictable teams going at it. Both are capable of putting up
points at a furious rate.
I would
say that the hotter team of the two would be the Bengals because they did win
two in row. I don’t see the team performing much this weekend especially
with Joseph Addai just not looking like himself. One can question if there’s
something going on with him.
I doubt
the Vikes will put in Jabbar Gaffney this week since they perform well without
him. I like Jay Cutler and Matt Forté to put up some good numbers. Those
numbers will keep the Vikings in the game.
I just see
Cincy pulling away but winning it in a close one, Driver and Favre will pull
the Bengals through.
Winner:
Cincinnati
New
York vs. Oakland
A hot New York team makes it into Oakland and it could not have happened at a
better time. GM Yanicki was served a little humble pie if he thought this team
was just going to steamroll the competition and the Giants have made a
statement so far this season.
I cannot
remember the last time the Giants starting the season 2-0. GM Porrovecchio is
just smiling ear to ear. I don’t blame him. He had been criticized to
signing franchise tag WR Terrell Owens. In the end I think it was a very smart
move. Who else in the draft would give you 16 TD’s in a season? Answer.
Nobody. So if winning is the main goal, why is signing a 16 TD WR over
drafting a RB that would be a part of a RBBC so criticized?
GM Yanicki
on the other hand has spent the last three years building the Raiders. He has
done so in a very controversial way. Trading value for non-value and drafting
non-value that turned into value.
This week
what will help the Raiders win is their kicking game and defense. I think
Buffalo defense will just make some plays and possibly return one to the house
against the Raiders at home.
Winner:
Oakland
That’s
if for this week folks. By the way, did you see those videos made last week?
That guy has talent. Until next week, signing off.
